I did it! I signed up for my next 50 miler. It’s less than 3 weeks away. The race – The Wild Idaho Endurance run is put on by my cousin Ben (the very talented one who just placed 17th at Badwater last week.) It’s a toughie – 16,000 of climb!!!! None of my races or runs have ever exceeded 8,000, so I guess it’s time to “PR my elevation gain” as his web site suggests. 🙂 I got that familiar tingle in the spine when I put the check in the mailbox. I love this feeling – the anticipation, the excitement at working towards a new goal — in this case an “Official” 50 mile finish. My confidence and training are good, my ankle seems to be healing up well and I’m ready to rock and roll and get this done!
One of the things I really like about Ben’s site is that he has the entrants send in photos and they are displayed on the site leading up to the race, so you can get a feel for the field you are competing in. Scroll down a bit until you find me in my hot pink tank. What a fun feature for this race! It feels pretty personal!
“Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming “Wow! What a Ride!”
— Hunter S. Thompson
And, I leave you with one more thing. I saw this today on a friend’s wall and fell in love with the message. I hope you enjoy!
