This is a pretty tough course – 1167 of elevation gain over several hills. I’d been wanting to run this race for years, and I’m so excited that today I finally did.

I was afraid to expect too much of myself at this race. My marathon was almost a month ago and I felt pretty strong going into this race, but I didn’t want to set my sights too high and be disappointed. My best (and only) flatter half marathon happened in July of this year with a time of 1:53:05. I knew this was too tough a course to PR, but wasn’t sure how much the tough hills would slow me down. I wrote in my running log this morning that my race prediction was 2:07. I blew that away!!! Wow!!! 1:57:30! Totally so proud of myself!

Here’s my splits along with the elevation gain of each mile:

Mile 1: 8:48 – 54 ft
Mile 2: 9:43 – 211 ft
Mile 3: 10:32 – 306 ft
Mile 4: 7:35 – 26 ft
Mile 5: 8:00 – 0 ft
Mile 6: 8:56 – 56 ft
Mile 7: 9:27 – 115 ft
Mile 8: 10:50 – 221 ft
Mile 9: 9:07 – 134 ft
Mile 10: 7:57 – 0 ft
Mile 11: 7:49 – 0 ft
Mile 12: 8:25 – 15 ft
Mile 13: 8:46 – 21 ft

The weather was really nice for the race: About 49 at the start, 5 mph winds, very cloudy and a light sprinkling of rain for about half an hour about the midpoint.

Stats: 13.22 miles. 8:53 ave pace. 1:57:30: total time (chip). Feel: SO proud of myself!
