31 min of wii fit plus today. Burned a whopping 72 calories.  The yoga really helped, though. My hips and hamstrings have been feeling uncomfortably tight lately.

Bertha came over for lunch.  It was the first time I’d seen her since the ultra. You know that amazing gal, in her pretty work clothes and high heeled boots, got down on my wooden kitchen floor and did pushups – on her knuckles while she was here! Holy smokes I wish I could do pushups like that!!!!! Talk about perfect form, and her arms didn’t even shake. Have I mentioned lately that I wanna be like Bertha when I grow up? 

We chatted about upcoming races and the 50K especially that’s happening one week after Robie. I’m nervous. I admit it. I want to do it so that I can say “I CAN handle this distance.” I wish it wasn’t one week after Robie, though. I’d prefer a few weeks to recover. I’m considering taking it super easy on Robie and staying with Mom and Wayne – maybe crossing the finish line together. Have I mentioned that Wayne is planning on wearing a hula skirt and a coconut bra to this?! Maybe I really don’t want to be seen with him after all. 

Hey, a little birdie told me that she’d like her start her own journal here, too. I’m sure you are all dying to know WHO that could be. I’ll let you think about it.  I’ll try to help her get going in the next week or so. It’ll be fun to relax and read all about the highs and lows of my bestest pal’s running adventures (co-starring yours truly on occasion) 

On a personal note, I’m feeling a little low. I think I need to work on they psychological aspect of running a bit more. I need to “get my head in the game” and not let my disappointments break my heart so much. I need to toughen up a bit. Wayne thinks if I race more this year, it will really help since it will dull my senses to the whole thing a little more and get me more comfortable in my own skin in that setting. I think he’s right. I’m eager to start racing. I only did 1 race in 2008 (a 2 miler that I did with Jr and Becca. Read : a very slowwwwwwwww 2 miler with my two kids who were 8 and 7 at the time.) Last year, I did two races: my first 10K in June and my marathon in October. That’s not a very long resume, now is it? I’m hoping to try lots of distances this year. I’d like to experiment with what I’m doing and see if I can push a bit more in the shorter races and push the boundaries of my endurance until I complete my first ultra (aka – try again.) Bertha and I were even discussing a 50 miler that’s happening in August on trials in some beautiful mountains a couple of hours from here. The area where it’s held is the same area that Wayne and I like to go for whitewater rafting. Hmm.. that sounds like a nice way to cool off after a tough 50 miles, now doesn’t it? We might have to look into that.
